5-Ingredient Strawberry Breakfast Pastries

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a Silpat.
Cut the puff pastry into six rectangles following the perforations in the dough to first cut the sheet into three long rectangles and then cut each rectangle in half to form two smaller rectangles. Place the pastries on the baking sheet, spacing them at least 1 inch apart.
Lightly score the dough by cutting a border 1/2 inch from the edges (do not cut the dough). Prick the center of the dough several times with a fork.
In a small bowl, mix together cream cheese and strawberry jam. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each cake and spread it within the marked area. Top the cream cheese with the sliced strawberries.
Beat the egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush the edges of the cakes with the egg mixture and sprinkle with powdered sugar (optional).
Bake the cakes for 15 to 17 minutes until golden brown and puffed.
Remove the cakes from the oven and serve.
