Homemade Caramel Sauce

This homemade caramel sauce is a great basic recipe. It’s perfect for a variety of recipes; from the topping, to the filling, and everything in between, it’ll be a staple in your home!

Ingredients

1 cup of sugar
6 tablespoons of butter
½ cup of heavy cream
½ teaspoons of salt

Instructions

Put the sugar in a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat.
Stir constantly with a wooden spoon or a whisk.
The sugar will start to form lumps. Keep stirring until it starts to melt into a brown liquid.
Once the sugar is completely melted, add the butter, remove from the heat and stir the butter vigorously until it is well incorporated. BE CAREFUL not to splash as the liquid is VERY hot.
Return to the heat and add the cream. Once again the sauce will splash, so be very, very careful!
Boil for 1 minute.
Remove from the heat and cool for 5 to 10 minutes before use.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 or 3 weeks.
