HOMEMADE GUMDROPS

These homemade jelly beans are the perfect gift to make for friends and family during the vacations! Made with a handful of ingredients – including apple sauce – these jelly beans will become a vacation tradition! One of our family’s favorites at Christmas!

Ingredients

2½ cups of divided granulated sugar
1½ mashed apple cups – no sugar added
6 oz of gelatin (cherry, lime, etc.)
½ oz unflavored gelatin 2 sachets
1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Instructions

Cover a 9×13 baking tray with cooking spray. Set aside.
Combine 2 cups sugar, apple sauce, jelly, unflavored gelatin and lemon juice in a large saucepan. Stir to combine. Let stand for 1 minute.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
Boil for 1 minute and then immediately pour into prepared baking dish.
Refrigerate until firm, about three hours will do. I left mine overnight.
Cover a large cutting board with parchment paper and sprinkle with sugar.
Loosen the sides of the gelatin with a spatula and invert them into parchment paper.
Use small, sharp cookie cutters to cut the gums. If necessary, you can dip the cutters in hot water first. You may need to periodically rinse the cutters to keep them clean.
Leave the cut gums on the sugar-coated parchment paper for about 8 hours or until they are slightly sticky.
Roll the jelly beans in the remaining sugar and store them in an airtight container.
