MELTED SNOWMEN OREO BALLS

Oreo Melted Snowman Balls are festive and a great addition to any holiday party. I guarantee they will be the first to go. Most people know them as Oreo chocolate truffles, but whatever you call them, these Oreo Melted Snowman Balls are a Christmas dessert recipe that is always a hit.

INGREDIENTS

1 (8 oz.) package of cream cheese, softened
36 OREO cookies, (regular size), finely ground
16 oz vanilla candy coating, , melted (like Candiquick or almond shell)
48 Mini OREO bite-size cookies
decorations: glazing or gel decoration; multicoloured sprinkles

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix the cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended. I like to crush the Oreos in a food processor and then add the cream cheese and process it together. But it can also be done by hand.
Shape it into 48 1-inch balls; place them in a single layer in a shallow pan. Some readers have put toothpicks on top before freezing them so they can be dipped more easily later. Freeze for at least 20 minutes. They can be frozen longer. Dip the balls in the melted layer (see note); I do this by using a fork and tapping the fork on the bowl of my candy layer to remove some of the extra layer. If you use the stick option, dip the balls and then gently remove the stick and fill the hole with the melted layer of candy. Place them in a shallow tray lined with waxed paper, allowing the excess coating to build up at the bottom of each ball.
Cool the balls until the coating is ready.
Decorate with the remaining ingredients as shown in the photo. You can use the candy coating to stick the hat to your head. Place them in the refrigerator immediately to place the decorations.
Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Keep it refrigerated.

NOTES

I have used almond shells before to dip them but I have found that the candy wafers work better. Sometimes when you dip the balls, the Oreos can leave some crumbs in the layer, but the wafers tend to do this less.
I like to divide my layer into halves or quarters so that if for some reason you put dark Oreos in a bowl you have others as a back up. You can even dip them twice. Once in a layer and if you have pieces of Oreo, oh well. The second time you dip them in a bowl with a fresh layer that melts and then there are no crumbs to worry about. I only had to dip them once, but in the past I have had pieces of oreo in my white layer?
