INGREDIENTS

CASSEROLE
1 pound of sourdough bread or French bread, cut into pieces
3 cups (326g) of chopped apples (2 large apples)
8 large eggs
2 cups (480ml) of milk (whole or 2%)
1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipped cream
1/2 cup (104g) sugar
1/4 cup (36g) light brown sugar, unpacked
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon

STREUSEL COVER
3/4 cup (98g) all-purpose flour
3/4 cup (169g) firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons of apple pie spices
1/2 cup (112g) salted butter, cut into pieces

INSTRUCTIONS

Grease a 9×13-inch pan.
Combine the bread pieces and chopped apples and place an even layer on the bottom of the plate.
In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients, minus the streusel, and pour evenly over the bread. Cover the pan and keep it in the fridge overnight.
When you are ready to bake the pan, preheat the oven to 350°F (176°C).
Bake the pan for about 35-40 minutes.
While the pan is baking, in another bowl, combine the dry ingredients for the streusel. Add the butter and mix with the dry mixture until a crumbly mixture is formed.
Take the pan out of the oven and crumble the streusel over the top of the pan.
Continue baking the pan for about 5 minutes, or until the streusel melts on top.
Serve the pan hot with syrup.
