Seafood Casserole with Shrimp and Crab

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb crabmeat, fresh or canned
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1/2 cup onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Seafood Mixture:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the shrimp, crabmeat, celery, onion, and garlic. Mix well and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce:
    In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour to create a roux, cooking for about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to whisk until the mixture thickens and becomes smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Combine with Cheese and Season:
    Stir in the mayonnaise and grated cheddar cheese until the sauce is smooth and the cheese is melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Assemble the Casserole:
    Fold the seafood mixture into the cheese sauce until everything is well combined. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  6. Add the Topping:
    Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake:
    Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.
  8. Garnish and Serve:
    Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.
