INGREDIENTS
½ cup of white candy melts
½ cup of pink candy melts
½ cup of red candy melts
1 ½ Table spoon shortening
3 cup Chex cereal
⅔ cup of powdered sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
Melt ½ cup of a caramel color is melted in the microwave, heating for 25 seconds, then stirring, and reheating as needed until smooth.
Stir ½ tablespoon of butter, then 1 cup of Chex cereal.
Stir to coat Chex cereal completely.
Place one-third of the powdered sugar (about 3 tablespoons) in a ziplock bag and add the caramel-coated Chex. Close the bag and shake well for one or two minutes.
The caramel will not be completely covered with sugar as we want the color to stand out, so the pieces will stick a little. Try spacing them out on a cookie sheet to dry.
Repeat this process with the other two candy colors that melt.
Allow to dry for at least an hour – avoid the temptation to put this in the refrigerator as this will make the candy sweat when it returns to room temperature.
