Chef John’s Hot Sloppy Joe Dip

For me this marks all the boxes for a hot party dip. It is relatively cheap and easy to make, but perhaps most importantly it is very hot, warm or room temperature. And it’s also incredibly versatile.

Ingredient

2 pounds of extra lean ground meat
2 green peppers, cut into cubes
1 onion, diced
4 cloves of garlic, minced
3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
2 teaspoons kosher salt, or to taste
1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
Cayenne pepper, to taste
2 cups of chicken broth
1 cup of ketchup
1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup grated Cheddar cheese, divided
