EASY BAKLAVA RECIPE

There is nothing like a delicious piece of baklava. This wonderful Classic Baklava Recipe will show you how to make this special dessert in your own home.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup of granulated sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup of pure honey
2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
16 ounce thawed puff pastry dough
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
4 cups of finely chopped nuts
1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Open the packet of puff pastry and cover it with a damp towel to prevent it from drying out. If necessary, cut out the dough to fit in your glass baking dish.
Grease a 13 x 9 inch or larger glass pan with one tablespoon of melted butter and set aside.
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey and lemon juice. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring often until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat to low and simmer without stirring for 4 minutes; set aside to cool.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
Combine finely chopped nuts and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
Place a sheet of the puff pastry on the bottom of the dish with butter. Brush with melted butter, then repeat with 9 more sheets of puff pastry. Spread the ¾ cup of the walnut mixture evenly over the layer of puff pastry.
Put another 5 sheets of puff pastry over the walnut mixture, brushing each one with butter. Sprinkle another cup of ¾ from the walnut mixture.
Repeat until the walnut mixture has been used up, then cover with the last 10 sheets of puff pastry, brushing each one with butter as you add them.
Brush the top layer with butter, then cut the dough into 1 1/2 inch strips and then slice diagonally in both directions to create diamonds.
Bake uncovered for 1 hour and 25 minutes until dough is golden brown.
Immediately after taking it out of the oven, pour the cooled syrup over the dough.
Allow to cool completely before serving. For best results, leave the baklava covered overnight so that the syrup is absorbed.
