INGREDIENTS

1 French bread or thick Texas toast
8 eggs
2 cups half and half
1/2 cup of milk
3 tablespoons of granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon of salt
Cinnamon Crunchy Cover
1 1/2 sticks of butter 12 tablespoons
1 cup of light brown sugar packed
1 tablespoon of optional light corn syrup
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare a 9 “x13” baking dish by covering the entire interior of the dish with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
Cut the French bread, about 1 inch thick. Arrange the slices on your baking sheet in rows, overlapping the slices. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat the eggs. Add half and half, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Beat until well combined.
Pour the egg mixture over the slices of bread, making sure they are evenly covered. Put some of the mixture between the slices, making sure that all the slices are completely covered. Cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.
The next day, preheat the oven to 350°F. Meanwhile, carefully turn each piece of bread to make sure everything is well covered with the mixture.
Make the topping
Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and mix to match. Place the cover over the prepared slices of bread. Then spread evenly over the bread (like you would glaze a cake).
Bake for 35 minutes, until swollen and slightly golden.
