McDonald’s Apple Pie

Our opinion on McDonald’s apple pie skips the frying and bakes instead to get a better view of the favorite restaurant. We use puff pastry, so you still get all those layers of puff pastry and buttery crust. Serve it with some homemade caramel as a special treat!

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons of butter
2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped.
1/4 c. of packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Juice from ½ lemon
All-purpose flour for the surface
1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
Egg washing
Cinnamon sugar

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 400° and line a large baking tray with parchment. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the apples, sugar, cinnamon, salt and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer and cook until the apples are soft and most of the juice is cooked through, about 8 minutes. Allow cooling.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry into a 12-inch square. Divide it into 8 rectangles.
Place the apples in the center of 4 rectangles, leaving a border of ¼” around the puff pastry. Cover with the remaining rectangles and crimp the edges with a fork. Using a sharp knife or kitchen shears, cut 4 slots in the top of each pastry. Brush with washed egg and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Place the cakes in the prepared pan and bake until golden brown, 25 minutes.
