HOW TO DO IT:
Combine butter, milk and sugar in a 5-quart heavy saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil, then stir continuously until mixture reaches the “soft ball stage”. Do not cook over high heat. Remove pot from heat and let cool slightly while stirring until the mixture loses its brightness. Add the nuts and stir until the mixture begins to thicken. Drop a spoonful on aluminum foil or wax paper.
