These slow-cooking sausages in onion sauce have a delicious homemade sauce that can be made with a few simple ingredients.

Slow Cooking Sausages and Onion Sauce
At the end of the cooking, you will have some lovely, juicy sausages and a rich onion sauce. It’s an excellent combination that will probably please all your friends and family. I strongly recommend that you cook some side dishes to accompany this meal.

Ingredients

Sausages
1kg (2.2 lb) of Italian meat sausages
2 onions, sliced
1 teaspoon garlic, crushed
2 cups of meat broth
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Thickener
3 tablespoons of cornstarch
4 tablespoons of water

To make sure this recipe is gluten-free, check that your sausages, Worcestershire sauce and cornstarch are gluten-free.

Instructions

Quickly brown the sausages in a frying pan over high heat.
In a slow cooker, add the onions and place the sausages on top. Add the meat stock, garlic and Worcestershire sauce.
Simmer for 6 hours.
Remove the sausages from the slow cooker.
Mix cornstarch and water until well combined. Once done, pour into slow cooker, stir slightly and season to taste.
Add the sausages back to the slow cooker and cook over high heat for 30 minutes or until thickened.
Serve and enjoy.

Recipe Tips

I strongly recommend that you brown the sausages before adding them to the slow cooker. It helps reduce the amount of fat produced in slow cooking and will help the sausage maintain a more pleasing texture. That said, if you don’t get there in time, you can skip this step.
You can use one or two drops of Parisian essence to give your sauce a deep brown color. This ingredient is available in Australia, but maybe more difficult to get in other countries.
