Apple Crisp Pizza

This went very well!! I just added a couple of pinches of nutmeg to the apples, as well as the cinnamon. I used Granny Smith and crunchy apples with honey and the taste was amazing! I will definitely do this again.

While trying to be a hybrid between a cake and a crisp is not successful. Yeah, maybe it’s easier than making a cake, but a lot harder than making a crisp. The flavor just fell away. I’ll still stick with my tried and true apple pie and crunchy recipes!

Delicious, quick, and easy! Sometimes a whole pie is too much for us. This recipe was perfect for dessert with just a few extra slices that will definitely disappear tomorrow. I forgot the caramel topping, but the vanilla ice cream went well with this pizza. With apple season just around the corner, I anticipate making this dessert often.

This has been a hit every time I’ve made it for a family lunch or dinner. I’ve been asked for the recipe countless times. I use a big tube of crescent rolls for the crust, because it’s faster and easier than making my own crust, and it’s always great. For a change, try a large tube of cinnamon rolls to make a crust. Press the thin ones into the pan and seal the seams. Proceed with the recipe as written. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better! All that goodness of cinnamon. YUM!! And don’t forget the vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:

Cake for the single crust cake (9 inches)
2/3 cup of sugar
3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 medium apples (such as Gala, Fiji, Braeburn, Empire) peeled and cut into 1/4 inch pieces
TOPPING:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup of packed brown sugar
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup salted butter, softened
DRIZZLE:
1/2 cup candy coating

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Roll up dough to fit on a 12-inch pizza tray; fold under the edges to give the pizza a slightly raised crust. Combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Add peeled and diced apples and mix. Place apples in a single layer on top of the pie crust to cover it completely.
For the topping: Combine the flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, cinnamon and butter in a bowl. Mix well. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until apples is tender. Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle with caramel topping. Cut into pizza slices and serve hot with ice cream. Makes 12 servings.
