1/2 can (21 ounces) of apple pie filling (or twice the recipe and use the entire can.
1 large egg
water
3 teaspoons of turbinado sugar
Caramel sauce for dipping, optional

Instructions

Remove the cake crust from the packaging and allow it to come to room temperature, according to the instructions on the packaging.
Cut the cake crust into 5-inch circles with a cookie cutter.
Place two slices of apples from the apple pie filling into the pie crust on the bottom half of the crust With a little water on your fingertip, moisten the outer edges of the pie crust. Fold the dough over the filling to form half moons; bring the edges of the crust together and then fold the edges with a fork to seal them.
In a small bowl, beat the egg with a stream of water. Brush the cakes with the washed egg all over.
Sprinkle a teaspoon of coarse sugar on top of each cake.
Make three slits in the crust on top of the cakes.
Preheat the fryer to 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Spray the basket of the air fryer with non-stick cooking spray.
Place 2 cakes in the basket at a time and fry them in the air for about 10 minutes or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling. Carefully remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool. Repeat with remaining cakes. (If the air fryer basket is large, you can cook more than 2 at a time as long as they do not touch at all.)
Serve with caramel sauce for dipping!
