For hamburger steak patties
1 large egg
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
6 slices cooked and chopped bacon
1 teaspoon of seasoned salt
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 1/2 pound of ground beef
1 large onion, diced
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon fresh black pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
For the mushroom sauce in the brown onion:
1 large onion, chopped
1 cup beef broth
1 cup of water
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Gravy master (orange top)
2 cups fresh sliced mushrooms
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients for the patty EXCEPT the flour and olive oil and mix well.
Form 4 to 6 hamburger patties – all the same size.
Dip each patty in the flour you set aside so that both sides are well coated.
In a large semi-deep frying pan over medium heat, heat the olive oil and place each of the patties in the pan.
Brown them on both sides, remove and set aside, reserving the cooking juices for the sauce.
In the pan with the cooking juice, add the sliced onions, add a tablespoon of water and cook over medium heat until slightly caramelized, stirring frequently.
In another medium bowl, whisk together the beef broth, water, 1/4 cup flour, seasoning salt, pepper, Worcestershire and gravy master until well blended.
Pour this mixture into the pan with the onions and stir constantly until the mixture begins to thicken.
Put your cooked hamburger steaks back into the pan, turning them several times to coat each side with the sauce, you want to make sure they absorb the sauce well on each side.
Add your sliced mushrooms, then reduce the heat to a low simmer.
Cover and cook for about 20 minutes more, making sure to turn them over every 5 minutes to keep them well coated.
Serve over buttered mashed potatoes
