21 Brilliant Hacks for Everyday Home Repairs

Home maintenance, such as unclogging drains and repairing nail holes, may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. These common maintenance tasks can be easily accomplished with 21 valuable home hacks.

Fresh Appeal

A Phillips screwdriver is a DIY necessity, but if you don’t have one, a vegetable peeler from your kitchen will do the trick. Insert the tip of the peeler into the head of a screw and turn it counterclockwise to eliminate the problem of removing the fastener.

On the Edge.

Is your current pair of craft scissors really unnecessary? Sharpen them with this homemade solution. Layer several sheets of aluminum foil, fold in half, and cut with scissors. After 6-8 cuts, you will have razor sharp blades.

Get the chills

For carpet dents, simply place ice on the dent and let it melt and dent in a few hours. Sponge up the water and fluff up the fibers with a spoon, and even the most modest home can enjoy the luxury of carpet.

The Power of the Shower

A clogged shower head can slow down the flow of water and reduce your energy to start the day. Fill a Ziploc bag half full of vinegar, secure it to the showerhead with a rubber band, and let it sit overnight. In the morning, remove the bag, rinse the showerhead, and enjoy a fresh, fast stream of water.

Freshly ironed floors

Just as an iron removes wrinkles from clothing, an iron is good at pressing old, damaged floor tiles back to perfect condition. Cover the peeling tiles with aluminum foil and press the hot iron against the foil to soften the floor. Then gently pull up the warped portion of the flooring slightly. Scrape off the dry adhesive, add new adhesive, and press down with a heavy object to complete this footing repair.

Strike while the iron is hot.

Can’t stand dents in wood floors or furniture? Wet the dent and place a damp towel over it. Then press the hot iron against the towel in a circular motion for a few minutes and the dent will be almost invisible (not to say invisible).

Raise the threshold.

If your drawers are jammed and commodities are inaccessible, one of the least expensive ways to get them out is with soap. Simply place a bar or disc of soap along the drawer slide. The soap will act as a lubricant and help you get to your stash again.

Stick with the idea.

Chipboard furniture is prone to crumbling, which can unnecessarily shorten its lifespan. Use regular school glue on the defective areas, smooth the glue with clingfilm, and color the repaired area with a marker for a rustic repair that will extend its life.

Under Locks and Keys

You don’t need a locksmith to open a jammed lock. The key is graphite, which can be obtained from a pencil using a penknife. After filling the keyway of the lock with graphite, the lubricated lock is ready to accept the key and can be unlocked immediately.
