Homemade Cool Ranch Doritos

If you like Cool Ranch Doritos, you’ll be looking for the same flavors on a stronger fry while it’s still hot from the deep fryer! It’s worth making the small effort to produce something so delicious, because hot homemade Cool Ranch Doritos are the bees’ knees.

Ingredients

For Cool Ranch Seasoning Mix :
1/4 cup dry ranch seasoning mix
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons of white cheddar powder
2 teaspoons of smoked paprika
2 teaspoons dried tomato powder
1 teaspoon garlic granules
1 teaspoon granulated onion
1 teaspoon of salt in fine popcorn powder

For Doritos Cool Ranch :
2 inches of peanut oil in a thick-bottomed oil or lard, canola or vegetable oil, in a high-bottomed pot or deep fryer
Desired number of corn tortillas cut into quarters
Cool Ranch Seasoning Blend

Instructions

To make Cool Ranch Seasoning Mix :
Whisk all seasoning mixture ingredients in a small bowl until no lumps remain. Transfer to a jar with an airtight lid. This mixture can be stored indefinitely at room temperature in a dark place. You may need to whisk each time you use it to remove lumps.

To make Cool Ranch Doritos :
Heat oil to 350°F. Line a bowl or plate with paper towels. Prepare another large heat-resistant bowl.
When the oil is hot, drop about 20 tortilla tips into it, one at a time. Fry, stirring frequently with long-handled tongs for 2 1/2-3 1/2 minutes, or until crispy. Use tongs to transfer to paper towel-lined plate or bowl, then quickly transfer to large mixing bowl. The chips should still be hot enough and make a little noise. Immediately sprinkle 2 teaspoons of Cool Ranch Seasoning Mix on top and toss into the bowl (either use the tongs to mix or toss into the bowl). Repeat until you have fried and seasoned all the tortillas you wish to cook. Taste the fries. If you like, you can sprinkle them with Cool Ranch Seasoning Mix before serving.
These fries are best eaten the same day they are made, but you can refresh them on a baking sheet in a hot oven a day or two after they are made.
