One bite of these pizza burgers with my face open and I immediately felt nostalgic. If you grew up eating English muffin pizzas like I did, these cheeseburgers will be to your liking. They taste like an enhanced version of a childhood favorite.

1 small yellow onion
4 English muffins
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 pound of lean ground meat
2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 cup of pizza or marinara sauce
1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese of low humidity

Place a rack 6 inches below the roasting element and heat the oven to 350ºF. Meanwhile, dice a small yellow onion.
Cut 4 English muffins in half. Place cut side up on a rimmed baking sheet. Toast in the oven until lightly browned, about 5 minutes. Set aside and place in the oven to bake.
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shiny. Add onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft, about 5 minutes. Add 1 pound of lean ground beef and 2 teaspoons of Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat into smaller pieces with a wooden spoon, until browned, crisp and cooked through, 5 to 7 minutes.
Add a cup of pizza sauce or marinara and cook until slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Divide the mixture between the English muffins. Sprinkle with 1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese.
Grill until cheese melts, about 1 to 2 minutes.
